Chengdu International airport  --

Concept Design for the exteriors of the terminals of the second International airport in Chengdu China. The concept symbolizes the various natural landscapes of the province and the red basin area.

Three landscape typologies are represented:
– Terraced rice fields are symbolized by sculptural sinuous topography and low vegetation,
– Plain /Crop fields are characterized by structured, rectangular spaces which can take the form and be designed as outdoor spaces, such as esplanades, courtyards, gardens and patios, for the use of the passengers and airport city employees,
– Mountains/hills and associated broadleaf evergreen forest are interpreted in dense tree planting clumps, developed and interpreted in various planting and hardscape forms to convey the idea of lush forest.
