The project aligns with the ambitious vision of the « school of tomorrow, » an inclusive educational model that is open and connected to its environment. The goal is to create living and learning spaces that promote children’s well-being, social cohesion, and connections with families and the neighborhood, through playgrounds redesigned as genuine shared living spaces.
The playground designs at the Emouleuses and Casalis sites are inspired by the « oasis courtyards » of the City of Paris, where vegetation and permeable surfaces harmoniously combine to create true cool islands that welcome biodiversity and relaxation. These spaces offer a wide variety of recreational activities, ranging from quiet games to dynamic activities, while encouraging children’s exploration and motor development. The abundant tree coverage provides shade and helps combat urban heat islands, while the planted areas create a calming atmosphere conducive to well-being and concentration.
The design also incorporates permeable surfaces for better rainwater management, gardens and vegetable patches that encourage contact with nature and hands-on learning, as well as live hedges around the perimeter that contribute to biodiversity and thermal comfort. Plant species have been carefully selected to be non-allergenic and non-toxic, ensuring the safety and peace of mind of the children.
Through this approach, every recess becomes a moment of awakening, enjoyment, and discovery, where nature, play, and pedagogy come together to build the sustainable and inclusive school of tomorrow.
