The redevelopment of the plaza in front of the Édith Bonnem Community Center in Alençon transforms a space largely dedicated to cars into a vibrant community hub open to the neighborhood. New, safe pedestrian and cycling paths connect the surrounding streets, public facilities, and green spaces, promoting active transportation and everyday use.
The former parking lot has been replaced by a large, generously planted landscaped area, offering shade, coolness, and comfortable use. Planted beds, shade trees, pergolas, seating, and play areas structure the space and create areas conducive to meeting, relaxing, and intergenerational activities. Stormwater management is fully integrated into the project’s design through a network of swales and landscaped ponds, contributing to both the quality of the atmosphere and the ecological functioning of the site.
Designed to address contemporary climate and environmental challenges, this new public space enhances the attractiveness of the neighborhood and offers residents a more convivial, more resilient and more nature-oriented living environment.
